Broadstairs Folk Week starts this Friday!

Have you got your dancing shoes ready? Do you know why? Because Folk Week starts on Friday 11th August until Friday 18th August!

As anyone who has attended a Folk Week before knows the event engulfs the town in the summer and there is hardly a venue that isn’t bursting with song, music and dance. There is something for everyone, so whether you are looking for a family friendly event or a chance to show off your dance moves, Folk Week has something for you!

So, what’s on?

Workshops: There are loads of workshops that take place every week; 2017 is no exception! Amongst the selection this year you’ll find: Appalachian Clogging (traditional folk dancing), Drumming, Guitar, Irish Tunes, Knitting, Song writing, Violin and so much more! This is a fantastic opportunity to learn something new or brush up existing skills. There is something for every generation.

Venues: There is so much happening all over Broadstairs but some of the venues to check out during folk week:

  • Bandstand: The seafront bandstand is the home of daily folk shows, children’s morning Hobby Horse Club. Occasional dances and story time for children.
  • Campsite Charles Dickens School: Has fantastic facilities for campers and offers the Country Dance Hall, a Theatre and the Music Zone.
  • Pavilion: Overlooking the harbour and offer snacks and meals throughout the day. Get your dance shoes on!
  • Concert Marquee: Major concerts every afternoon and evening, featuring the festival headlines!

Young Folk: There is something for the little ones too! The fabulous Hobby Horse Club every day at 10.45, special days of Music, song and dance, circus skills workshop and even a music show!

Dancing: You can dance your socks off at Folk Week. All around the town there is something going on. From traditional dance to late night ceilidhs (Gaelic for socialising!).

There is so much to do this year at Broadstairs Folk Week!

BCS have been sponsoring this fantastic event for over 20 years now! So, I am sure you’ll see some of our ninjas around town, getting into the Folk Week spirit!
